A handsome large round brooch in the Ruskin style, its central glass cabochon shifting through near-black and deep burgundy, the ground broken by organic swirls of cream and ochre that give the piece a warmth and depth not easily found in later costume jewellery. The silver-tone mount carries a closely-packed gadrooned surround that frames the glass well and gives the whole piece a formal, deliberate presence.
