A mid-twentieth century shell cameo brooch, the oval shell carved with a left-facing female portrait, her swept-back waved hairstyle placing the carving firmly in the 1930s to 1950s. Set within a substantial gilt wire-work frame associated with the Italian tourist trade of the period, with a rear suspension loop allowing it to be worn as either brooch or pendant.

Good condition with age-related wear throughout. The cameo is intact with minor surface wear consistent with age and a small area of shell discolouration to the upper left of the portrait. The wire-work frame is present and intact with verdigris patination evident throughout, most pronounced at the setting edge, and the pin-bar and suspension loop are present and functional.
